Wake Forest women are invited to join Dr. Paige Meltzer, founding Director of Wake Forest's Women's Center, for a special session on building career opportunities and professional growth. Dr. Meltzer will be in Boston for a conference and has graciously offered her time to host a career-focused women's session and workshop. As part of her role in the Women's Center, she regularly facilitates very popular workshops for faculty, staff, and students on many different topics. For this event, we have selected It's a Jungle Gym, Not a Ladder, a session applicable to women at many various stages of their career.
It's a Jungle Gym, Not a Ladder: When she encouraged women to "lean in," Sheryl Sandberg wrote that building professional opportunities is like playing on a jungle gym, not climbing a ladder. In this session, we'll talk about why this metaphor, credited to Fortune magazine editor Pattie Sellers, is especially important for women, crowd source what's worked and what the challenges have been for women in the room. We'll conclude with an activity that pushes us to think beyond traditional models of upward professional growth so participants can leave with a "next move" on their own jungle gym journeys.
The cost of registration is $10, which includes a light dinner and beverages. Please be sure to register in advance as space is limited. The agenda for the evening is as follows:
6:30 p.m. - Check-in, networking, and self-service dinner
7:00 p.m. - It's a Jungle Gym, Not a Ladder Session
8:15 p.m. - Wrap-Up
8:30 p.m. - Event concludes
